About the role: 

The Investment Officer will be supporting the division in identifying viable investment opportunities across the mining value chain. This will involve Industry/Market Analysis, Business Analysis, Forecasting, Shortform Financial and Valuation Modelling as well as acting as gatekeepers in the entire due diligence and acquisition and deal financing process.

The role will also be required to support the Division in investment and portfolio managernent. This is an entry level positions and require individuals with honed quantitative skills and are prepared to develop and nurture a career in a mining and minerals investment environment. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring of financial performance of all investment and future investments against the key investment criteria.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly annual reports summarising results of the portfolio and specific individual assets under the MDCB control
  • Analysing financial statements, prepare financial models, and conduct Industry, market, and company research.
  • Provides relevant information for the development of the sector focused business development strategy targeting investment opportunities locally, regionally and internationally,
  • Targets a number of prospective clients in based on MDCB selection criteria.

The ideal candidate 

We are looking for a professional with financial, analytical, and modelling skills, with ability to evaluate past and present economic issues and trends and report forecasts.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge in Industry/Market Analysis, Business Analysis, Financial and Valuation Modelling, Business Development, Investment Portfolio managernent, and customer relationship management skills
  • Strong quantitative/ numerical skills with proven experience Interpreting financial information
  • Strong analytical, modelling and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication. skills.
  • Highly motivated and proactive committed to the highest ethical standards
  • Report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure. Decisive and resilient. High attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should possess: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree with a specialization in Finance, Investrnent and portfolio Management, Business or Engineering. Alternatively, any combination of education and training equivalent to a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree demonstrating the ability to excel in this role will be considered.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Mining and Minerals Investment, Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, private Equity, Venture Capital, or Strategy. Consulting an M&A Environment Mining/Minerals sector will be an added advantage.
