Mr. Norman Madikwe "NM"

Mr. Norman Madikwe is a highly accomplished diamond sorting and valuation specialist with over 30 years of experience across the diamond industry's public and private sectors. Since 2019, he has served as the Chief Government Diamond Valuer for the Government of Botswana, where he leads the valuation and oversight of the nation’s diamond production to ensure accuracy, compliance, and strategic alignment with national interests.

Mr. Madikwe began his career in 1994 with the Botswana Diamond Valuing Company, laying the foundation for his deep technical expertise. In 2007, he underwent advanced training in large stone valuation at De Beers London, after which he was appointed Large Stone Valuation Specialist. In 2008, he returned to Botswana to join the Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB), where he quickly rose through the ranks—first as Quality Control Manager, then as Process Manager. In these roles, he led key initiatives in diamond sorting, quality assurance, operational efficiency, and stakeholder engagement, significantly enhancing DTCB’s performance and achieving strategic milestones in productivity and sorting precision.

Internationally trained, Mr. Madikwe is a graduate of the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) in Diamond Grading. He has also completed several advanced courses through the De Beers Diamond Trading Company in London, including the prestigious Rough to Polished Diamond Valuation (R-TOP) and Advanced Manufacturing Courses. These credentials position him as a technical authority in large stone sorting, valuation, and sales coordination processes.

Mr. Madikwe joined the Government Diamond Valuator’s Office in 2014 as a Trainee Diamond Valuer and quickly advanced to become Understudy to the Chief Government Diamond Valuer. His proven leadership and technical acumen led to his current appointment, where he plays a critical role in safeguarding Botswana’s interests in diamond governance, ensuring that valuation processes are both accurate and transparent.

He holds a Diploma in Accounting and Business Studies from the University of Botswana and has further enriched his leadership and managerial capabilities with professional training in negotiation skills, emotional intelligence, supervisory development, and finance for non-financial managers.
