The Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB) concluded the week with a productive and insightful visit to Morupule Coal Mine (MCM), one of Botswana’s flagship mining operations. The visit marked a significant step in reinforcing MDCB’s commitment to strategic oversight, operational excellence, and collaborative growth within the country’s mineral sector.
Business Update and Strategic Dialogue
The visit commenced with a comprehensive business update delivered by MCM Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Edwin Elias, who shared key developments, performance highlights, and future plans for the mine. The presentation provided MDCB’s leadership with a clear view of MCM’s operational trajectory, investment priorities, and sustainability initiatives.
Site Tour: New Surface Plant Installation
Following the briefing, the MDCB delegation toured MCM’s newly installed surface plant, gaining firsthand insight into the technological upgrades and infrastructure enhancements aimed at improving coal processing efficiency and environmental performance. The tour underscored MCM’s commitment to modernization and its alignment with national goals for responsible resource development.
