It is with profound sadness that Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB) shares the news that our Chief Executive Officer, Mr Matome Tsholetsa Malema, has passed away.

Affectionately known as “MTM,” Mr Malema was appointed to lead MDCB in 2022, bringing with him more than 35 years of distinguished experience across the global mining and metals industry. Throughout his tenure, he was instrumental in advancing our mandate to grow, optimise and diversify Botswana’s mineral investment portfolio on behalf of the Government.

Mr Malema was a highly respected leader who served on several prominent boards, including the De Beers Group and Minergy Coal Mine. His deep operational expertise and strategic vision, honed through senior roles at organisations such as Debswana and BCL Limited, were matched by an unwavering commitment to integrity and national development.

He will be remembered for his professional wisdom, his role as a dedicated mentor and the lasting impact he made on Botswana’s mining community. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.
