Mr. Matome Tsholetsa Malema “MTM”
Mr. Matome Tsholetsa Malema is a high-impact mining and metals executive with over 35 years of leadership experience across base metals, diamonds, and original equipment manufacturing in the mining services and solutions space. Commercially astute and operationally grounded, MTM has led transformative initiatives across business development, strategic turnaround, capital projects, financial management, and stakeholder engagement, earning deep respect for his ability to drive performance and culture change at scale.
His career spans top-tier organizations including BCL Limited, Debswana Diamond Company, Bateman Engineering, Discovery Metals, Lucara Diamond Corporation, JoyGlobal Africa, and Komatsu Mining Corporation—a subsidiary of Komatsu Limited. Across these roles, he has consistently demonstrated excellence in safety leadership, people development, process optimization, and P&L accountability.
As CEO of the Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB), Mr. Malema oversees the Government of Botswana’s mining investment portfolio. His mandate includes optimizing, diversifying, and growing mineral holdings while providing commercial and technical advisory services to the state. Under his leadership, MDCB is redefining Botswana’s mineral investment strategy with a global lens.
Mr. Malema’s boardroom experience includes Non-Executive Chairmanships of the Water Utilities Corporation and MDCB, and directorships at Minergy Coal, Minergy Limited, and the De Beers Group (serving on its Sustainability Committee). His expertise in governance and corporate strategy has influenced both SOEs and high-impact joint ventures.
