For the second consecutive year, the Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB) successfully led preparations of Botswana’s national participation at the prestigious Investing in African Mining Indaba 2024, reaffirming the country’s reputation as one of the continent’s most attractive destinations for responsible and sustainable mining investment.
Under the compelling theme “Embracing the Power of Positive Disruption,” MDCB coordinated an exceptional national showcase that highlighted Botswana’s stability, mining investment opportunities, and commitment to innovation in the mining industry.
A Unified National Showcase
Entrusted by the Ministry of Minerals and Energy, MDCB orchestrated a collaborative national pavilion that brought together 14 companies representing Botswana’s diverse mining ecosystem. The pavilion served as a vibrant hub for investment dialogue, business networking, and brand visibility.
MDCB’s strategic leadership also secured sponsorships from Abaricom and Standard Chartered Bank, enhancing the experience with dedicated internet connectivity, hospitality, and high-quality marketing materials that drew record engagement.
The delegation comprising MDCB and Government Diamond Valuation (GDV) representatives engaged with investors and industry leaders, positioning Botswana at the forefront of discussions around sustainable mining and critical minerals.
Thought Leadership and Investor Engagement
Under the leadership of MDCB Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Matome Tsholetsa Malema, the Botswana team held productive meetings with global mining and investment firms. Mr. Malema underscored Botswana’s enduring strengths: political stability, a robust legal framework, and a clear commitment to responsible resource management.
Heading the delegation, Honourable Lefoko Maxwell Moagi, Minister of Minerals and Energy, delivered an impactful address during a high-level session, offering Botswana’s perspective on “Positive Disruption in African Mining”. His remarks reinforced the nation’s readiness to harness innovation and technology for inclusive and sustainable growth.

To celebrate the success of Botswana’s presence, MDCB hosted an exclusive Partner Appreciation Dinner attended by the Minister, Permanent Secretary, Director of Minerals, and CEOs of partner companies. The event served as a platform to strengthen relationships, exchange insights, and map pathways for future collaborations.
