The Albert Milton Hall at Debswana Jwaneng Mine was alive with energy as the Maranyane Bokamoso Job Shadowing Camp concluded with a vibrant Career Fair and Graduation Ceremony. The event marked the culmination of a week-long programme that continues to inspire Botswana’s youth to dream boldly and pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Hosted by Debswana Jwaneng Mine, the initiative brought together senior secondary school girls from Moshupa, Seepapitso, Lobatse, Good Hope, and Matsha College, offering them the unique opportunity to shadow female engineers and professionals across the mine. The programme, which also embraces differently abled learners, stands as a beacon of empowerment and inclusion nurturing the next generation of innovators and leaders in Botswana’s mining industry.
MDCB Champions Youth Empowerment and STEM
Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB) was proud to participate as an exhibitor at the Career Fair, showcasing the company’s mandate and opportunities within Botswana’s dynamic minerals sector.
The Corporate Affairs team engaged learners on MDCB’s pivotal role in developing the nation’s mineral wealth, while Ms. Tshepo Rantho from the Human Resources Department shared valuable insights into the diverse career paths available within the organisation. Many students expressed enthusiasm about MDCB’s work and the possibilities it represents sparking meaningful conversations about careers in mining, investment, and resource development.
A Day of Inspiration and Celebration
The event featured a stirring keynote address by His Worship Ronica Ntsimako, Mayor of Jwaneng, who commended the programme’s transformative impact. Attendees were also moved by the heartfelt testimonial of Omogolo Margaret Keipone, a former participant now pursuing a degree in Mining Engineering at BIUST, a testament to the life-changing potential of the initiative.
The highlight of the day came as the third cohort of participants proudly received their certificates, examinations care packs, and laptops; tangible symbols of their hard work, resilience, and promise for the future.
